Summary: Is younique a pyramid scheme? At first glance, the company looks legit. Younique is a beauty company that makes use of a traditional MLM tactic to market its products. The products are sold almost exclusively online and the company boasts of a simple but effective royalty scheme. Problem arise however when it comes to the business model they are using which prioritizes recruiting over selling - a tell tale sign of a pyramid scheme. If you are fine with a company that sells but is still quite shady, then you can go ahead and try this out. But if you want a safer way to earn, you may want to check out other programs.
What is Younique?
With a the goal of uplifting, empowering, and uplifting women through beauty products, brother and sister tandem Derek Maxfield and Melanie Huscroft established Younique. Younique started as your usual cosmetics company back in 2012 who sold through networking channels.
The business follows the basic structure of a multi-level marketing company (MLM). The only thing different with them is that they sell almost exclusively through social media which, according to them, gives their presenters a wider market.
Everybody starts off as an entry-level presenter and may rise to the rank of exclusive presenter as their network grows. We’ll discuss the structure in detail later.
Younique offers your typical line of cosmetics products “inspired by Mother Nature”. The company has everything from mascaras to lip tints to skin products. Younique also has an NGO partner, Defend Innocence, funded by the Younique Foundation.
How Does Younique Work?
As mentioned earlier, the company follows the traditional MLM business model and the only difference is that they sell almost exclusively through social media. Here’s how it works: sell their products, recruit more people to sell it, and tell your recruits to recruit, and just repeat the process until you’re rich.
Younique’s pride as an MLM company is its simple structure. Here is an overview of it:
You will start off as a Younique Entry Presenter. This tier is divided into two status colors, White and Yellow, with the latter color having a higher status. As a presenter in the White level, you would need to sell $125 worth of products for your first three months and to achieve the next status, you would need to sell $500 worth of products.
The next tier is called Exemplary Presenter with Pink and Blue as its status colors. In order to reach Pink status you would need to recruit one qualified first-level presenter and another one if you want to reach Blue status.
The third tier is called Elite Presenter wherein you would need to reach three qualified first-level presenters to reach Green status. The next status of this tier is Orange and you would need a total of three first-level presenters and one elite presenter.
The last one is the Exclusive Presenter tier. To reach its Purple status, you should already have four first-level presenters under you and two Elite presenters. The highest status is Black status where you would need fours first-level presenters and four first generation elites for a total of eight recruited active presenters.
How to Make with Money with Younique?
Much like any other MLM out there, you will need to sell and recruit to earn. Obviously, as you go higher in the ranks, you get to earn more as well. Here is an overview of their simple compensation plan:
As an entry presenter in the White status, you will earn a 20% royalty on your sales. However, before you start selling, you need to buy your starter kit first for $99 and then sell products from the company to earn a total of $125.
As an entry presenter in the Yellow status, you will get a 25% commission from your sales.
As an exemplary presenter in Pink status, you will still be able to earn 25% royalty from each of your sales. In addition to that, you will earn a total of 3% royalty from the one qualified first-level presenter you recruited. Once you reach Blue status, you will start to get 4% worth of royalty from your two first-level presenters.
Being an Elite presenter in the Green status means that you already have three first-level presenters and you will be earning 5% from them on top of the 30% retail royalty you are getting. Orange status, meanwhile, requires you to have one elite-presenter already for an additional 3% royalty.
You are also getting 3% from the recruits of your recruits.
Once you are in Purple status, you will earn an additional 4% from you elite presenters apart from the 6% royalty you will be getting from your first-level presenters. As a presenter in the Black status, you will get an additional 5% for the recruits of your recruit’s recruits (believe me, it can go longer than that).
How do I Get Paid?
Younique takes pride in giving fast royalties to their presenters. You will be asked to may an account in PayQuicker and, according to them, you will receive your royalties within three hours after making the sale.
Furthermore, once your commissions reach $50 you will receive your own Younique debit card. Since your transactions will be online with a website provided to you by Younique, you wouldn’t need to worry about the computations.
What Do Younique Users Say?
Younique is quite famous actually. Just by searching it, you will already see numerous comments and videos reacting to the company. A lot of peopel are trying to probe into its legitimacy and asking the question is younique a pyramid scheme. Let’s see what peopel are saying about the company:

Is Younique a Pyramid Scheme?
The cons outweigh the pros which means I won’t be able to recommend this product to you. Here’s the thing, however, I won’t be able to call this MLM and outright pyramid scheme.
Its business model is actually good at first glance. In fact, according to reports, the business did great during its first year. However, once you look closely in its scheme you will realize that they are asking you to recruit more instead of selling more which is a strong indication that the company is prioritizing getting money from starter kits rather than sales itself.
On the other hand, its foundation and partner organization cannot be thrown out of the picture as well. Even if we can say that the company is a scam, they might be helping others on the other side of the spectrum.
So, is younique a pyramid scheme? Here’s my verdict:
For a company with a lot of information published online, Younique still feels like a shady company. There are a lot of things that we cannot seem to verify still and conflicting reports are not helping its cause.
Jumping into the beauty trend through Younique is up to you. As we mentioned, the products are easy to sell but the same cannot be said for recruiting. If you want to earn legitimately, I suggest that you look into other programs that we can fully recommend.
