Is Option Alpha a Scam? – Here’s the Unbiased Truth

Summary:  Option Alpha is an educational platform concerned about trading options online. The service was founded by Kirk Du Plessis back in 2007 and has since grown to become a one-stop shop for traders education and assistance. The main product of Option Alpha is their line of 12 specific options trading courses which you can access through a free subscription. They also offer paid subscriptions priced at $99 or $299 per month. I can recommend this product to those who can afford these paid subscriptions. Is Option Alpha a scam? Based on what I’ve researched on, it looks like the answer is no.

What is Option Alpha?

Option Alpha is an online options trading education service that gives everyone the chance to learn and then earn from trading. According to their official website, learning with Option Alpha for only 30 minutes a day can teach you the skills needed to generate the income you’ve been dreaming about.

The service was founded by Kirk Du Plessis and he serves as Option Alpha’s Head Trader as well. The service was founded back in 2007 with the goal of creating a platform to show people how to trade options and consequently generate consistent passive income.

Kirk Du Plessis used to work for Deutsche Bank as an investment banker and an analyst also for BB&T Capital Markets. Option Alpha currently has 155,376 members with 12 specific options trading courses available for each one of them.

How Does Option Alpha Work?

As an educational trading service, Option Alpha basically provides educational materials to its subscribers through their website. I mentioned earlier that they have 12 specific options trading courses and here they are:

  • Options Basics
  • Bullish Strategies
  • Options Expiration
  • Professional Trading
  • Entries and Exits
  • Neutral Strategies
  • Earnings Trades
  • Real Case Studies
  • Portfolio Management
  • Bearish Strategies
  • Pricing and Volatility
  • Trade Adjustments

Each of the courses can have 10-27 video lessons concerned with the respective topics of the course. These were all designed to teach the necessary for beginners to professionals in the field.

More than being an educational service, Option Alpha also has several more services such as live trading markets where you could actually trade. The company has evolved to become quite the one-stop shop for all your trading needs.

Kirk Du Plessis and his team designed the courses and once you’ve finished all of them, you should be able to make smarter and more profitable trades --- ideally. Now, the question here is whether these courses are actually substantial, thus, is Option Alpha a scam?

Where Can I Get It?

You can get everything from Option Alpha’s official website. This website contains all of their materials from the actual courses to live trading markets, and blog articles to weekly podcasts.

There are three types of subscriptions you can avail through Option Alpha: Free, PRO, and ELITE. The Free (yup, it’s free) subscription with cost you, well, $0. On the other hand, the PRO subscription costs $99 per month and the ELITE subscription costs $299.

With the Free subscriptions, you’ll get access to their guided video courses, PDF guides & checklists, live trading examples, and more. The PRO subscription will give you everything that the Free subscription offers plus daily emails, SMS trading alerts about live trades, nightly video reviews, access to the current portfolio and the members-only forum. Finally, the ELITE subscription will give you access to all of Option Alpha’s services such as live group coaching webinars and bonus training modules.

What Do Option Alpha Users Say?

Based on the comments, it looks to me like this company is legit with actual working services. However, some concerns were raised regarding the cost and benefits of Option Alpha to its subscribers.

Option Alpha Ugly Truths Revealed

  • The 12 free courses can be really helpful for those who want to start in the market but are still skeptical in getting their resources out of their pockets.
  • There is a wide variety of tutorials that can accommodate beginners to advanced traders.
  • As compared to the other services I’ve reviewed so far, comments for Option Alpha are a lot better.
  • Informative website.

  • I haven’t seen any strong red flags but the omniscient blocks of positive comments about Option Alpha can be seen anywhere in their website which is quite annoying. For obvious reasons, it’s just hard to trust positive comments released by the company itself.
  • Users have continuously raised their concern that they are losing more than earning.
  • You’ll have to pay to get the full effect of the service because, trust me, those courses won’t be enough.

Is Option Alpha a Scam?

Here’s my final verdict:

I actually had a harder time looking for the disadvantages of Option Alpha as compared to when I was writing the pros part of the review. Although the sheer quality of the product may render positive reactions, I could not hide the fact that there are still “smart” disadvantages to Option Alpha concerning the techniques they are using.

Now, as far as recommendations go, I think it would be safe to recommend Option Alpha to those who can fully invest on the paid subscriptions. For those who can only afford the free courses, it wouldn’t hurt to learn through this platform as well. However, before diving into this opportunity, just remember that there are certain risks in trading that may not be Option Alpha’s fault. In the end, you will be the trader and it will be your decisions.

Is Option Alpha a scam?

It would be unfair to Kirk and his folks to call this a scam. As I mentioned, the service shows quality and there are handsome statements (not in their website) to prove it. Since you’re already here though, do check out our top recommendation on your way out.

If you are looking for a pocket-money-earning opportunity, I would recommend paid survey sites like VivaticPinecone Research, and iPoll.
